Radiological Protection Technology
About the program
The Radiological Protection Technology program at Fountainhead College of Technology teaches students the fundamentals of radiation safety, contamination control, and emergency preparedness, as well as, advanced topics such as chemistry, technical writing, and nuclear power plant operation.
What is Radiological Protection Technology?
Radiation protection technicians provide valuable support services for the operation of nuclear power plants. Duties include monitoring the environment through water, soil and air sampling, evaluating technical data, operating and calibrating plant equipment, implementing work procedures, conducting in-plant radiological surveys, directing activities for radiological safety, and providing radiation protection training to plant personnel.
Why should I pursue a career in Radiological Protection Technology?
The chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission stated in 2006 that there is a need for 90,000 new, entry-level workers just to maintain the positions that already exist in the energy industry. Positions in this field include: Radiological Protection Technician, Radiological Protection Technologist, Health Physics Technician or Health and Safety Technician.
