More education in medical coding, means more opportunities for you. After completing our Medical Coding Certificate program, you can earn your associate’s degree in Health Information Management and Medical Coding by completing 8 additional months of training. This program is designed to provide quality training in the essentials of Health Information Management with an emphasis on Medical Coding. Coursework includes Diagnosis and Procedure Coding, Reimbursement Methods and Regulatory Guidelines, Healthcare Compliance, Legal and Ethical Issues, Data Quality and Management, Health Information Documentation, Inpatient including Information and Communication technologies, Health IT Systems and Data Content, Healthcare Professionalism, Anatomy and Physiology, Coding, Medical law and Ethics, Medical Terminology, Reimbursement Methodologies and the skills needed to experience growth in the medical field.
What is Medical Coding?
Medical Coding is the practice of assigning codes to diagnosis and procedures which help in financial reimbursement from insurance companies, government agencies and private companies. Observations, medical interventions and treatment outcomes are assigned a code, recorded and stored, often digitally. Medical coders are tasked with interpreting and recording this data in an accurate and detailed manner, so that it may be used in filing insurance claims and medical billing.
Why should I pursue a career in Medical Coding?
Entry-level employment opportunities can be found in a wide variety of healthcare environments such as hospitals, clinics, surgery centers, physicians’ group practices, long-term care facilities and home health care agencies. Coding specialists are also employed in computer software companies, government agencies, insurance companies, coding and billing service companies and consulting firms.
Day Class Schedule
8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Night Class Schedule
5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
20% of each week may be accomplished via the Internet.
