About the program
After establishing a solid foundation in Medical Coding by completing Fountainhead’s Medical Coding Certificate program, you can earn your associate’s degree in Health Information Management: Health Information Technology by completing 8 additional months of training. This program is designed to provide quality training in the essentials of Health Information Management with an emphasis on Health Information Technology. Coursework includes Diagnosis and Procedure Coding, Reimbursement Methods and Regulatory Guidelines, Healthcare Compliance, Legal and Ethical Issues, Data Quality, Organizational Resources, Healthcare Statistics and Research, Health Services Organization and Delivery, Healthcare Communication Technologies and the skills needed to obtain entry-level employment and experience growth in the medical field.
What is Health Information Technology?
Health information technicians process, compile and maintain medical records of hospital and clinic patients while adhering to administrative, ethical, regulator and legal guidelines and requirements. Duties may include protecting the security of medical records to ensure that confidentiality is maintained, processing patient admission and discharge documents, reviewing records for accuracy and completeness, data entry, medical coding, statistical compilation, managing records release and managing health information systems.

Day Class Schedule
8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Night Class Schedule
5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
20% of each week may be accomplished via the Internet.
(Do not come to building on Friday night, assignment is online.)
