Provisions of the Higher Education Amendments of 1976 require each post-secondary institution make student aid information available to any enrolled or prospective student who requests such information. Information to help students determine eligibility for financial assistance is available by appointment in the Financial Aid Office.

We are an eligible institution to participate in the following:
Grants
Federal Family Educational Loans
Private Loans
Veteran Benefit Programs
Institutional Programs
Grants are generally not paid back. However they are paid back if they are obtained through false information or if the student's withdrawal from school creates an over-award.
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Tennessee Student Assistance Award
  • Department of Human Services sponsorship
  • Subsidized Stafford
  • Unsubsidized Stafford
  • Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students - PLUS
Loans must be paid back regardless of whether or not a student graduates. Our preferred lenders include Regions Bank, Sallie Mae and First Tennessee Bank for federal Stafford loans and private loans. After careful consideration of the features offered by a range of lenders, we have chosen the aforementioned because they offer savings, service and reliability. You may, however, choose a lender that is not listed. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to learn how to apply for a loan with that lender.

Some questions to ask while dealing with financial aid are: What determines eligibility to receive federal and/or state aid?; How do I apply for aid?; How are SFA funds disbursed to the student?; and What are the rights and responsibilities of students receiving financial assistance?

Initial federal student aid eligibility requirements include: having a high school diploma or GED, being enrolled at least half-time, having U.S. citizenship or proof of eligible non-citizenship, having a clean financial aid history and being registered with Selective Service (if required).

To determine if you are eligible to receive aid, you should follow these steps:
1 Accurately complete the FAFSA
2 Verify your data
3 Provide any requested documents
Accurately complete the "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA). Applications may be obtained at the college, or online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. It is recommended that you have assistance from the College's financial aid department to expedite the process.
If you are "selected for verification," you will be required to provide certain documents so that the school can verify the data on your application. Rules and procedures will need to be observed concerning the documents you are asked to bring to the College.
You will be responsible and required to provide any requested document within 90 days of signing the application for financial aid and before any aid can be awarded. You will be informed in writing as to the documentation needed and the deadline by which you must provide it. In the event that you fail to provide the required documentation within the specified time period, additional documentation may be required. Remember that no aid is awarded prior to completion of the verification process. The College will notify you in writing of the results of verification within 30 days after all documentation is received. If you are required to correct information, the College will instruct you through the process. Again, federal and state aid will not be awarded or delivered until the process is complete. It could delay your starting date if you must make corrections.
